Maple Leaf Summer Social

The Maple Leaf Community Council, along with the Maple Leaf business community, hosts an ice cream social each year on the last Wednesday in July at the Maple Leaf Playground.  All Maple Leaf residents are invited to attend this non-commercial, community-building event. In addition to free ice cream, clowns, and live music, Maple Leaf businesses share food samples, massages, coupons, and information.  A variety of city and county agencies also are on hand to talk with community members.  This is a great opportunity to learn more about the city and the neighborhood, talk with your neighbors, and have fun. Contact Barbara Maxwell or Janice Camp to help make this event happen.

The 12th Annual Maple Leaf Summer Social, held July 25th in the Maple Leaf playground, was a huge success! We had nearly 1,000 people come to enjoy ice cream from Ice Cream Express and Caribbean sounds by Island Jamz, the Bubble Man, balloon clown, food samples from local restaurants, and information from a wide range of city and county services. Seattle Parks Department crew helped set up and break down the tents and tables. Thanks to Seattle Parks and Recreation for their continued support of our community event.

The 12th year of the Maple Leaf Summer Social was a fun and informative as the first one. We have Jolene Rolhiser, Barbara Maxwell and Janice Camp to thank for their energetic and generous work organizing this event. Their behind-the-scenes tireless efforts coupled with many volunteers, such as the Maple Leaf Community Council Executive Board and Maple Leaf Evangelical Church volunteers, are what make the event happen.

We also had the generous financial support of Dawn Porter, who sponsored the clown and Cathy Boyce, who sponsored the balloons and Olympic View Community Church for sponsoring the Bubble Man and Juan Peralez, Seattle City Light, Neighborhood Power Project. A huge thank you to Mike Kelley and Kathy Stephenson of Maple Leaf Ace Hardware for sponsoring the ice cream again this year. If you see these volunteers or visit these businesses, tell them thank you and let them know how much we appreciate them being a part of Maple Leaf!
