Summer Social Planning

The Summer Social is Maple Leaf’s biggest annual gathering—a full afternoon in the park with music, treats, local vendors, and neighbors of all ages coming together. The committee behind it makes the whole thing happen, from early planning to day-of fun. Whether it’s your first time volunteering or you’ve helped before, there’s a place for you here.

Bring joy to the neighborhood

The Summer Social is more than an event—it’s a celebration of who we are. You’ll help create moments that bring people together: kids dancing to a band, neighbors meeting for the first time, families sharing ice cream under the trees. It’s one of the most joyful days in Maple Leaf, and your work helps make it possible.

Be part of something big

This event has a lot of moving parts, and it doesn’t happen without volunteers. Whether you’re organizing logistics behind the scenes, coordinating local businesses, or just jumping in for a shift on the day-of, you’ll be contributing to something the entire neighborhood enjoys.

Make it your own

The Summer Social evolves every year—and we want your ideas. Maybe you have a vision for a new theme, activity, or layout. Maybe you want to help make the event more inclusive or sustainable. However you want to contribute, you’ll have a chance to shape the experience.

Our annual events often include celebrations, clean-up days, and informational sessions on local issues.

How is the council funded?

The Maple Leaf Community Council is funded mostly through membership dues. Some events and the leaflet are sponsored by local businesses. We also receive donations and grants occaisionally. Absolutely! Our approach is to partner with neighbors to help them start events that will benefit the neighborhood. This has included an annual Movie Night, a block party, and a Silent Book Club. Yes, the Maple Leaf Community Council actively advocates for local issues that impact our residents. We work to communicate community concerns to city officials and collaborate with other organizations to address challenges facing our neighborhood.
